DataBackedNews is an independent data-journalism outlet. We report on technology, markets, science and the economy, and we hold ourselves to one rule above all others: every factual claim carries a primary source, a sample size where relevant, and a date. If we can't source it, we don't publish it.

What "data-backed" means here

• Numbers are traced to the primary release — a paper, a filing, a statistical agency — not a secondary summary of it.
• Every statistic states its sample size and collection window when the source provides them.
• Uncertainty is reported, not hidden: confidence intervals, p-values and known limitations appear in the body, not the footnotes.
• Each report ends with a numbered source list you can click and check yourself.

Independence & funding

Coverage is editorially independent. We do not sell coverage, and sponsored content — should it ever appear — would be labelled unambiguously and excluded from the newsroom's data reporting.

We use no affiliate or referral links and earn no commission from any product, platform or operator we review. Outbound links point to the official source; where we use a /go/ link it is an internal click-tracking redirect only, not a paid or affiliate link. Rankings are data-weighted and cannot be bought.

Corrections

We correct the record openly. When a figure changes, we update the article, change the "updated" date, and note what changed. To report an error, reach the desk at [email protected].

AI & machine readability

Our pages are structured so that both people and machines can extract them accurately: named authors, dated claims, structured data (Article, FAQ, HowTo, Dataset) and clean, crawlable markup. We do not cloak — humans and bots see the same content. See our methodology for the full sourcing standard.
